STS examCORE Course Description
The STS examCORE course provides leading-edge training modules designed to help learners succeed at the BCSP STS exam. The program includes over 11 hours of video training in over 30 subject areas, pre- and post-tests, challenge questions, learning exercises, additional resources, module-specific time-stamped notes, and over 500 practice questions. Simulated, timed exams are also included to help participants recall and retain safety and health fundamentals.
Participants in this course will explore concepts that support their overall knowledge of safety practices that ensure safer and healthier worksites, and enhances their competencies related to the foundation of safety in the organization.
Topics covered include bloodborne pathogens, first aid, CPR, common workplace hazards, confined space, control of hazardous energy, cranes and rigging, disaster preparedness, electrocution, environmental management, ergonomics, excavation/trenching/shoring, exposure assessments, falls, fire protection and prevention, fleet safety, hand and power tools, hazard communication, hierarchy of controls, incident investigation, industrial hygiene sampling, inspection and audits, job hazard analysis, law and ethics, life safety principles and standards, materials handling, noise, performance metrics, personal protective equipment, powered industrial trucks, respiratory protection, and training and education.
The use and practice of these concepts are achieved using post-module challenge questions, module exercises, and simulated practice exams.
Course Outcomes
The following outcomes should be achieved by the end of the STS examCORE course:
- Identify hazards associated with cranes and rigging, excavation/trenching/shoring, hand and power tools, work at heights, and other common workplace activities.
- List the most common workplace hazards that lead to the majority of serious workplace injuries and fatalities.
- Describe the hazards associated with hazardous energy control, confined spaces, and powered industrial trucks.
- Select the most effective hierarchy of control method that applies to various types of hazards while considering likelihood and severity.
- Recognize unsafe conditions or acts related to common workplace hazards and risk factors.
- Describe the components of disaster preparedness and common elements of response plans for business continuity.
- Recognize the hazards associated with bloodborne pathogens in the workplace and rendering first aid and CPR.
- Explain the importance of a fleet safety program and the most prevalent fleet safety hazards.
- Recognize legal and ethical challenges associated with workplace safety and health.
- Summarize the steps used in performing incident investigation and audits.
- Discuss how the implementation of life safety principles can be used to make the workplace safer.
- List common ergonomics hazards and corrective actions that can be taken to avoid them.
- Recognize common exposure hazards and the methods used to control them.
- Discuss the use of metrics evaluation as it relates to an organization’s safety performance.
- Refresh technical knowledge/skills and master competencies required to pass the BCSP STS exam.
Completion Requirements
To receive a certificate of completion for this course, participants are required to do the following:
- Take the pre-test (must be taken in order to access post-test)
- View each of the course modules in its entirety
- Attempt all challenge questions (presented after every submodule)
- Score an 80% or higher on the course post-test (you may attempt the post-test as many times as necessary)
Course Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for this course. It is recommended that course participants apply to sit for the STS exam at the earliest opportunity following completion.

If an examCORE customer does not successfully complete their respective BCSP certification exam, BCSP examCORE offers a one-time six-month course extension at no charge.*
*A BCSP examCORE participant must achieve a certificate of completion (i.e., finish all course modules and challenge questions, complete the pre-test, and achieve an 80% or higher on the post-test) in order to qualify for the one-time six-month examCORE course extension at no charge. The extended six months of access begins at the end of the initial access period.
To request the guarantee, upload your unsuccessful/failed exam result to your examCORE user profile. Upon verification, you will be granted a six-month extension of examCORE access. A participant must submit their failed exam result and guarantee request within three months of the end of their examCORE access (either the original time period or a purchased extension) to qualify for the examCORE guarantee.
